松山大学経済学部では、地域貢献の一環として、市民の皆様と本学学生および教職員の新たな学びの場として学術講演会を実施しています。
2024年12月8日、シリアは54年の長きにわたる独裁体制に終止符を打ちました。2011年に中東各地で起きた民衆革命（いわゆる「アラブの春」）以降の13年間は、政権派による反政権派への苛烈な弾圧とそれに対する反撃の応酬により、シリア社会はますます疲弊しました。しかしその一方で、メソポタミア文明の揺籃地であるシリアは長い歴史と豊かな文化を持つ国です。本講演ではシリア人の目を通して見たシリアの歴史や文化、宗教、社会、近年の変化等、欧米や日本の主要マスメディアによる一方的な報道からは見えないその姿に焦点を当てます。
「シリアでは戦闘状態が長く続いていた」「シリアでは政権が交代した」等、表層的なことは知っていても、シリアの人々が実際にどのような経験をし、今、どんな思いでいるのか、日本で知る機会はあまりありません。大変貴重な機会ですので、ぜひご参加ください。

As part of our community outreach activities, the Faculty of Economics, Matsuyama University holds academic symposium to provide local citizens, students and faculty members with new opportunities to learn and exchange opinions.
On December 8, 2024, Syria brought an end to 54 years of authoritarian rule. In the 13 years following the people’s revolutions (commonly known as the “Arab Spring”) that swept through the Middle East in 2011, Syrian society became increasingly exhausted due to the relentless cycle of brutal repression by the regime and counterattacks by opposition forces.
At the same time, however, Syria—home to one of the cradles of Mesopotamian civilization—is a country with a long history and rich cultural heritage. This symposium will shed light on aspects of Syria often overlooked in Western and Japanese mass media, focusing on its history, culture, religion, society, and recent transformations, as seen through the eyes of the Syrian people.
While basic information such as “Syria has long been in a state of conflict” or “There has been a change of government in Syria,” is widely available, there are few opportunities in Japan to learn what people in Syria have actually experienced and how they feel today.
